There is no shortage of things to seek in this life, but you can’t take anything with you when you die. Most things themselves are amoral. They can be used for good or bad. My bigger concern is the time wasted; not items enjoyed or taken.
When we seek God with all that we are, we find that our true needs are revealed and met. I found this principle to be true when I quit my corporate job to come home and help sort out our adoption of 9 siblings. I had run the numbers many times and my income being gone would not produce a balanced budget even if we sold my truck, our camper, etc.
I had reached a critical junction. Trust God and focus my time on the mission he has me on or worry. At first I tried to do both, quite unsuccessfully, I might add. I finally jumped in with both feet. And I began to see God’s principle in action. I had to let go of my pride and let the body of Christ bless us while I spent my time living the mission God had for me. I still did private computer consulting when able but it was rare and even God provided those opportunities.
Why was I so resistant to God’s provision? Why did I need to be the provider? What was I trying to prove? My pride needed to be conquered. My only regret is not jumping in sooner. In retrospect, I wasted time and caused even more stress by trying to follow The world’s principles and God’s at the same time.
Personal Reflection
What areas of your life do you need to surrender? Said another way, what area of your life is getting in the way of your relationship and mission with God. Confess this to God and spend time today reading in one of the gospels about Jesus’ ministry and then reflect on one character trait that stands out to you and that you want to exhibit also.
Prayer Focus
LORD we confess that we are distracted easily and sometimes trust more in ourselves than you. Help us to let go of our pride and pursue you with all that we have and encourage others to do the same. Open our eyes to see your love and provision. Replace worry with trust and let us not waste another minute distracted from our mission. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
