Just do it – a reflection on God’s word

Just do it  What a great marketing slogan..After years it still stirs up excitement and causes us to ask the question, Do what?  James could have been the poster child for this slogan.  Check out James 1:22-25 (ESV) below:

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

This, if motivated by love, is one of the most simplistic and yet rich passages for Christian living.  We are not called to just be amass knowledge, but to live the word.  If we seek only knowledge without love,  we deny our own identity that God has given to us and we forget who we are in Christ.

God’s word frees us from the false identities the world places on us.  It infuses truth into the core of who we are for the purpose of living for Christ.  If we simply submit ourselves, in love,  not only to read it but live it, our lives will be transformed and sown into the tapestry of God’s plan of redemption for all eternity.

We must look into the perfect law of liberty and persevere.  Notice, it requires some action of us.  We must look and persevere.  We must pay attention and not loose focus on Christ despite our daily challenges.  We must strive to live in dependence on the finished work of Christ and not get distracted in the allures of this world and it’s systems of “success”

God is ever drawing us closer to Him and refining our trust that our faith may grow and grow.  The more we submit and live His Word by His Spirit, the more we see the evidences of God active in our lives.  Yes there will be times where we feel He has left us, because we’ve taken our eyes off of Him. His Word reveals our need for Him and helps us to cling to His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us.

Today is a day meant for you to live His Word..Just do it!  Join with me in being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts.  Know, live and speak His Word today!
