#seek – Brian Friedl https://brianfriedl.com Making Your Life's Mission Possible Thu, 24 Oct 2019 12:26:05 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.3.17 64732294 How Do I truly Find God? https://brianfriedl.com/how-do-i-truly-find-god/ Thu, 24 Oct 2019 12:26:05 +0000 http://brianfriedl.com/how-do-i-truly-find-god/ I’ve spent the last 30+ years of my life helping people to seek God. This has prompted a ton of conversations and questions.

I have been asked, “How did you find God?” To that I simply reply, “You have to seek Him like your life depends on it, because it does!”

People often say, “Why can’t I find Him like you?” And “I wish my faith was stronger.” They say these things like they have no choice in the matter.

We choose every day what to seek after and where to place our faith. The problem isn’t our lot in life or our circumstances. It’s our willingness to give up control of our lives and seek after God with our WHOLE heart.

When we trust in Him, God takes us on a journey of building our faith and it only deepens the more we seek to know Him.

The problem isn’t external, you simply need to surrender and seek Him more to experience real relationship and faith.

What does that look like in ‘real life?’

1.) Get a good Study Bible that helps you unpack and understand God’s Word.

2.) Carve time out every day to feast in His word. Dig deep. Look for answers.

3.) Take time with God in prayer throughout the day. Take a walk and talk to Him, talk to Him in a quiet place, or on the ride to work.

4.) Attend a Bible-teaching church. Bring a pen and notebook and take notes.

5.) Apply what you are learning daily and at church to your life.

6.) Spend time with your church family around God’s word.

7.) Keep a journal of How you’re seeing God work and what He is teaching you.

8.) Tell others about what you are learning

9.) Keep seeking until you find what you’re looking for. Don’t give up!

Hide And Seek https://brianfriedl.com/hide-and-seek/ Sat, 10 Jun 2017 11:54:52 +0000 http://brianfriedl.com/hide-and-seek/ One of my favorite games to play is hide and seek.  The thrill of being the last one found or quickly finding others is an adrenaline rush for me. I remember playing in the dark one night with our oldest 7 kids.  I had gone to the trouble of climbing a set of shelves and hiding on top of a window box.  I thought for sure my daughter would eventually give up.  It was the better part of an hour but she finally found me.
Several observations can be made from this illustration in light of this passage.

  1.  God chooses who to conceal or reveal Himself to. We must seek Him with our whole heart to find Him.
  2. He knows who genuinely seeks Him and those who confesses with their lips but their hearts are from from Him.
  3. We must be persistent in our seeking of Him.  Those who seek, find, when their hearts are all in and they don’t give up.

So how do you seek Him with your whole heart?  You must understand your condition apart from Him.  Scripture says, “apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5) and “you were dead in your trespasses..for it is by grace, through faith, you are saved”  (Eph 2:1,8) If you are unable to save yourself you must go looking for another solution.  Not just browsing but searching diligently with all that you are. Your life depends on it!

And when the Lord shows you the absolute perfection in what He has done for you, your eyes will be opened and the game of hide and seek will be over.  What a glorious moment in your life!   For You have found your Savior!

Reflection

Are you seeking after God with all of your heart or have you lost your passion?

Read Ephesians 2:1-10 and then set a plan to read through all four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).  Take notes every time you see something Jesus did for you.  After each reading go for a walk or get to a quiet place to just mediatate on what God has done for you.  What a great opportunity to worship!

Prayer

Father, thank you for all you have done!  We know that apart from Christ we can do nothing. We praise You for sending Him to us, for taking our punishment, and for conquering our sin!  Give us a heart that seeks after You with a zeal and passion that is unwavering.  May we find you in all Your glory.  In Jesus’ name we pay, Amen!

Faith In His Promises  https://brianfriedl.com/faith-changes-everything/ Mon, 09 Jan 2017 05:46:52 +0000 http://brianfriedl.com/faith-changes-everything/ I love these words our Savior has instructed us; they remind us of the unmatched power our our Father in heaven.  With God it’s not a matter of “if  it’s possible” but that “all things are possible.”

There have been times where life has brought me so low, I couldn’t even see up.  My faith was there, but due to prolonged difficult circumstances, it was weakened. I cried out to God,  “I believe but help me in my unbelief.”  I poured over His promises in scripture as a lifeline for my faith and He heard my cry. He faithfully answered and led me through.  For He was with me through flood and flame and I neither drowned nor burned.  This is faith and even that is a gift.

The power of faith is fueled by His promises and expands every moment we seek Him with our whole heart and watch for Him to work.  Cry out to Him today. Ask Him to help you in your unbelief. Seek Him diligently in His word, and look for His faithful hand.  Faith changes everything from the inside out!

Want To Be Fully Satisfied? https://brianfriedl.com/want-to-be-fully-satisfied/ https://brianfriedl.com/want-to-be-fully-satisfied/#comments Tue, 19 Jul 2016 10:18:30 +0000 http://brianfriedl.com/want-to-be-fully-satisfied/  I was speaking with someone recently about being fully satisfied in Christ. The rebuttal I received was, “Nobody understands what I go through”. I’m well aware of how situations can be overwhelming and this may sound harsh, but this way of thinking will always keep us in a place of dissatisfaction.

Check out all of Psalm 63:

“O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, For You have been my help, And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me. But those who seek my life to destroy it, Will go into the depths of the earth. They will be delivered over to the power of the sword; They will be a prey for foxes. But the king will rejoice in God; Everyone who swears by Him will glory, For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.” (‭Psalms‬ ‭63:1-11‬ ‭NASB)

Being fully satisfied starts with earnestly seeking the right thing, namely God Himself. We will never find full satisfaction in wealth, revenge, our will, or any other man made solution.  Only when we seek Him with our entire soul, will we find we we long for.

Secondly, we need to see His power and glory coupled with a grasp on His grace.  I’m amazed how quickly everything in my life sours when I’m not focused on His glorious lovingkindness.  For His grace is better than any experience, material good, and even life itself!

Third, we must make time to meditate on who He is and what He has done.  This requires that we put down or phones and probe the beauty of the character of our Heavenly Father. Our soul must cling to our Creator if we are to be in harmony with life.  For when we are separated at any length, we are lacking.

Lastly, we must rely on the LORD to endure  the enemy attacks. There power in the hand of our LORD.  He is a shield around us and none will stand in a his presence. For the battle belongs to Him and there is only one victor.  Our enemies will be shut up with the truth. For we are children of the most high God!

Personal Reflection

Examine your life. Where do you get your satisfaction from above all else?  Your children?  Your work? Any place other than God is but a temporary solution.  When we are satisfied in Christ (God’s perfect Provision) we are satisfied in all.

Seek Him earnestly today, recalling the beauty of the grace poured for you, meditating on His character, and relying on His victory at the cross through His Son Jesus and you will be satisfied!

Prayer Focus

LORD we praise You with our lips and with hands held high.  You are our rock and our salvation.  For Your lovingkindness has no end.  You have rescued us from ourselves and the sins we once called satisfaction.  Help us to seek You with all that we are.  Remind us of the cost of our freedom. Fill us with the true knowledge of You as we meditate on Your Word.  Above all let us be satisfied completely in You through Your Son Jesus Christ, Amen!

4 Actions to Enjoy the Lord https://brianfriedl.com/4-actions-to-enjoy-the-lord/ Mon, 19 May 2014 14:07:03 +0000 http://brianfriedl.com/?p=210 As I read through Psalm 119 today, God revealed a pattern of Christian living.  There are 4 actions that are mentioned over and over again:  Seek, Meditate, Keep, and Speak.  Four simple words but for some reason not easy for us to do.
The object of these actions include God Himself, His Word, His Law, His Testimonies, His Commandments, His precepts, and His Understanding to name a few.  As I read I was convicted. Do I actively Seek, Meditate, Keep, and Speak of these things?  Am I diligently drawing closer to my Lord and Savior with my whole heart?

This Psalm beautifully discusses that results of these actions also.  They include Delight, Understanding, Reverence, Steadfastness, and Praise.  Totally worth the investment, right?

Reflection

I can’t help be think that if we are not doing this actions and enjoying the results that we are missing a huge part of our relationship with Christ.

May you delight in the Lord today and all He has done for you.  Seek, meditate, keep and speak of Him and all His Word says today!

Prayer

LORD, help us to desire the results so much that these actions would be a joy.  May your love fill us and spill over to all we come in contact with.  We praise you today, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
