You Are Not Alone

We are facing giants each day, some external and some internal. They appear in the surface to be bigger, stronger, and faster than we are.

We could have cause to fear if we were trying to battle alone. The child of God is never alone. God goes before His children as a consuming fire. The battle belongs to Him!

When the giant seems large, we must remember the times when God delivered us from our previous giants. It is He who gives the victory and He is faithful!

David grabbed 5 stones while trusting he only needed 1. He knew there is no end to the giants on this side of life. Those other 4 stones would be needed at some point.

We, too, should expect giants and not be caught off guard or complain when we face them. For the Lord will deliver them into our hands; every last one of them.

Let us encourage one another as we face our giants together!

Yet He Is With Me https://brianfriedl.com/yet-he-is-with-me/ Tue, 31 Dec 2019 11:57:23 +0000 https://brianfriedl.com/yet-he-is-with-me/

His Presence is My Strength

For some, 2020 doesn’t include making big plans, but instead they are just trying to survive. Perhaps they are facing the biggest physical battle of their lives.

Jospeh found himself in a similar position. His own brothers had gotten jealous and allowed him to be sold into slavery and survival mode.

The story is heartbreaking and sad, but five words changed everything. The five words are these: “Yet God was with him”

When we face the difficulties of this life and the overwhelming strain of a fallen word, we too, are not alone. We need not endure these sufferings by ourselves.

In the midst of brokenness, grief, and pain, God’s presence makes all the difference. His favor is refreshing water and strength to press on.

We have the blessing of knowing the end of the story. God’s plan was bigger than the current suffering. Through Jospeh, the remnant of Israel was preserved.

Whatever you are facing today, God is with you. He wants to bring you through so that all may see His glory, love, and power.

Praying for all my brothers and sisters facing overwhelming battles as you enter 2020. May God’s favor be upon you and may you feel His presence and strength in the storm.

Suffering: What Is It Good For? https://brianfriedl.com/suffering-what-is-it-good-for/ https://brianfriedl.com/suffering-what-is-it-good-for/#comments Wed, 13 Dec 2017 13:15:50 +0000 http://brianfriedl.com/suffering-what-is-it-good-for/ There are few who enjoy suffering and most would avoid it all together if possible. We must recognize; however, it has its place in our process of being conformed to the image of Christ.

For with tribulation and suffering comes a new level of dependence on our Heavenly Father. It demands a perseverance we otherwise would never see develop in ourselves. This perseverance leads to true character in word and in action. We are able to see our deep need of Him and He is faithful to fulfill our every need. And what is waiting for us at the end of this process? Hope. Hope that does not waver, doubt or disappoint, but thrives in the confidence of His proven faithfulness throughout the trials and tribulations.

Remember God is causing all things to work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (Rom. 8:28). What ever your suffering is, it is building a testimony of His faithfulness that has the power to change the world. Make sure the tribulation is not wasted but that it brings glory to Him through your witness to others.

Reflection

What’s your normal reaction to suffering?

What sufferings are you going through right now that could be used to glorify Him?

Prayer

Gracious God, thank you for the tribulations that are producing perseverance, character, and ultimately hope in us. For You are faithful in all things and love You LORD! Build in us the testimonies of that faithfulness that all may see Your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

Running In Wind And Waves https://brianfriedl.com/1224-2/ https://brianfriedl.com/1224-2/#comments Sun, 09 Apr 2017 12:54:56 +0000 http://brianfriedl.com/1224-2/ Last week I ran one of the hardest runs of my life physically and mentally.  Most of the battle took place before my running shoes were even laced up. My wife and I were on a cruise in the Carribean between Honduras and Belize. One night, the waves were cresting at around 21ft. I cannot tell you how thankful I was that I had made the decision years earlier not to join the Navy!

The boat swayed and rocked so much so that you would it looked like people were performing a dance routine in unison as they walked and tried to keep from falling.  I was planning to be strong and take it head on, but my stomach waged an all out strike at the idea.  We made it back to our room and I dove for the bed. I trusted in a good night sleep for the night fully anticipating to be better in the morning

I woke early; ready for my last run on the ship.  I stepped out of bed and quickly realized my bout with the waves was not over.  I tried twice to push through and finally on the third try, I made my way to deck 13 where the running track was.

As I began to run, I noticed some things right off the bat.  First, I started feeling better as soon as I took off.  Scientifically it made sense that if I was running, I was in the air more often and not feeling the ground move beneath my feet.

The day also happened to be incredibly windy.  When I would make my turn I was met with 40mph wind.  While this was a challenge, running also made this section of track pass more quickly.  Had I walked I would have been a mess between the wind and waves.

As I reflected, I realized that sin parallels with sea sickness.  It’s something that is internal and corrupts our ability to perform the most basic of functions.  We must throw it off and run.  When our eyes are fixed on Christ, and our feet are running, we can stay steady even when the “ship is rocking”.  When the wind blasts in our face, we will still make progress for the kingdom of God if we press on.

Reflection

What things are most likely to rock your boat?

What’s holding you back from the decision to run?

Make your mind up to run the race He has set before you, even when you’re not feeling it!

Prayer

Gracious Father, you have instructed us to run with good reason. Help us to fix our eyes on Jesus and run steady in the storms while we carry out the ministry of reconciliation.  Thank you for your life lessons in everything.  We love You and lift these in Jesus’ name!
