We Won’t Be Shaken

(Psalm 62:1-12 NASB)
My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation,My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
How long will you assail a man,That you may murder him, all of you,Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
4They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position; They delight in falsehood; They bless with their mouth,But inwardly they curse. Selah.
5My soul, wait in silence for God only,For my hope is from Him.
6He only is my rock and my salvation,My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
7On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.
8Trust in Him at all times, O people;Pour out your heart before Him;God is a refuge for us. Selah.
Men of low degree are only vanity and men of rank are a lie;In the balances they go up;They are together lighter than breath.
10 Do not trust in oppression And do not vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.
11 Once God has spoken;Twice I have heard this:That power belongs to God;
12 And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,For You recompense a man according to his work.

Reflection
David knew what it was to be hunted and on the run.  Saul pursued him through a passion fueled by insanity with the purpose of destroying him.  It wasn’t always like that; keep in mind David had served him with a devoted heart.  When Saul was miserable only David could comfort and now the tables were turned and David’s biggest proponent had become his biggest adversary.
Not only was David in physical danger, but emotionally he must have been torn to shreds as well.  Why couldn’t life be like it was?  Why are those who revered him now trying to kill him?
While most of us are not being hunted, we do have situations in our lives that seem to hunt us whether it be emotionally, mentally, spiritually, physically, or a combination thereof.
Notice David’s response.  He firmly plants His eyes on God and fully trusts therein.  What is the result?
1.) God is his Salvation
2.) God is his Rock
3.) God is his Stronghold
4.) David won’t be shaken
When we seek to lock eyes with our savior and trust fully in Him, we do not see all that lies in wait around us.  We are enthralled in the protection and light of His glorious face.  We know without a doubt that we are in His care and we won’t be shaken!

Father you have set our feet upon the rock that is Christ.  For whatever comes our way, we can trust in You.  Only You will sustain us. For Your joy is our strength. May we forever enjoy Your presence and praise Your name, Amen!
