The Grass is Always Greener…When It Rains and Shines

As human beings our minds are constantly at work comparing and judging what’s best.  Too many times everyone else seems to have it better than we do. To use and old analogy, the grass always seems greener somewhere else.

If we are the grass, we are green but over there it seems to have a much greener glow about it.  So we desire to be uprooted and replanted.  Anyone who gardens knows that transplanting takes its toll on a plant.  Some never recover.

Rather than desiring to be transplanted from one place to the next in search of contentment, why not consider these thoughts:

1. Grass grows when there is a combination of rain, sun and nutrients in the soil. These are things that the grass has no control over

2. Transplanting in search of the perfect soil often times ends up drying out your roots instead of offering contentment.

3. Eventually, it rains and shines everywhere

God’s blessing is like the sun and rain. He chooses where it is dispersed and all He touches prospers.  We can make sure our soil is nutrient rich by feasting on His word daily. As grass, we cannot force the clouds out of the way or demand they drop their precious life giving water, we can only wait

Running from one life experience to the next hoping for contentment in the things of this world will only produce, weak dry roots and eventually lead to death.

God’s blessing will come. In some cases it’s already here and we miss it because we are looking elsewhere to see how green it is there. Take an inventory of God’s blessings today in your life and praise Him!

You are richly blessed, shined upon and watered with none other than god’s precious son Christ; the most incredible light and living water this planet has or will ever know!

Reflection

What tempts you the most to compare your self/your situation to others?

Is that helpful or is it only producing discontentment?

God created you to carry out his mission of glorifying Him through bringing the good news in word and action.  Time to put your eyes back on Christ and cover yourself in the joy of Jesus!

Prayer

Father, we confess we forget to keep our eyes fixed.  We look at ourselves and others and get distracted; feeing like there is lack when in reality we have been so blessed by Your abundance. Help us to experience true contentment in Your son.  For He is our joy in this life and all that is good is in Him.  Amen!
