How To Run To Win

I went to the track last night with a couple of my daughters.  My youngest daughter has a conference meet today.   I came along since Running is God time, think time and therapy to me. My daughter and her friends on the track team were running the 4 x 100 for time.  They’ve broken multiple school records and now completed their run with a very good time.

The competitive spirit in me decided I would try to do a 100 to see how well I would do.  I have not run one of these in over 20yrs!  I wasn’t even sure I could maintain top speed all the way to the 100 mark. As I was running, I was all in, focused on giving everything I had. No Olympic records, but my time was right in line with theirs.

It’s amazing what happens when we run to win.  Unlike a 100m dash, we are not running to win glory for ourselves. Instead we are running for the glory of the Lord and His Gospel.  In fact Paul writes this a few verses later:

“I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.” (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭9:23‬ ‭NASB‬‬)

That’s running the race with focus!  Not driven by comparison or competition but by the Gospel.

Personal Reflection

questions for today:

1) What and who do you do all things for? (  Yourself, recognition, family)

2)What would your life look like if it was all for the Gospel?

3) What do you need to stop doing, start doing, keep doing to make the vision of question 2 a reality?

Prayer Focus

Heavenly Father, renew our minds with Your truth, align them with Christ and strengthen us to run the race to win for You! But all things that we do be done for the Gospel, in Jesus name, Amen!
