Faith-Filled Obedience is Worship

I love the story of Abraham and Isaac. There are so many truths that come from this passage.  Whether it be a lesson in God’s faithfulness or the revelation of His plan, all of it brings Him glory.

Today I’d like to draw attention to the idea that Faith-filled obedience is worship

Check out this passage:

After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭22‬:‭1-5‬ ESV)

We know that Abraham was a man of faith. Elsewhere in scripture it indicates that his faith was credited to him as righteousness.  Here in this passage we see first he has faith by rising early.  There was no delay, but instead swift and complete obedience.

Secondly, look closely at verse 5.   He trusts that he and Isaac will come again. Knowing the Lord’s instruction, how could this be without faith?

Now take a look at what Abraham states they are doing.  They are going to worship.  Worship by faithfully obeying.  Abraham obeying his Father and Isaac both his father on earth and in heaven.  There are no “but Lord” comments uttered.  There are no special feelings or the right lighting or mood mentioned.  Simple faith-filled obedience is all that was mentioned.  That is the substance of worship

I believe God is giving us opportunities daily to faithful obey Him.  Whether it be loving our neighbor, sacrificing for a friend, or surrendering our lives, He wants us to grow in faith and obedience.

Faith-filled obedience is worship. Let’s worship Him together today!
